Report: Meijer scales back format for grocery-focused store

6/25/2009

Grand Rapids, Mich. Meijer plans to build a smaller format, grocery-focused store in the Chicago suburbs, according to The Grand Rapids Press.

The store will be 102,000 sq. ft. -- about half the size of a traditional Meijer supercenter. But Meijer doesn’t plan to abandon its original format. It will open a 200,000-sq.-ft. store in Hartland Township, south of Flint, Mich.

The location is scheduled to open in first quarter 2010.
