Mountain View, Calif. – Google is reportedly planning to launch a service that will compete with Amazon Home Services later this spring. According to BuzzFeed, Google will integrate a new product into its core search functionality that will directly connect users searching for service providers such as plumbers and electricians to the providers.
Currently, Google will return links to users performing searches for service providers, but does not provide direct connection. It is not clear exactly how Google will connect consumers with providers, or how communication will occur.
On March 30, Amazon launched Amazon Home Services, a marketplace that allows customers to buy 700 professional services, ranging from car maintenance to house cleaning. The new service is available in major U.S. metropolitan areas including New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. Amazon Home Services puts Amazon in competition with such popular online service platforms such as Craigslist and Angie’s List, and Google will be competing with these platforms as well. Google declined comment in the article.
