Report: Facebook overtakes Wal-Mart in stock value

Menlo Park, Calif. – Facebook may not have anywhere near the retail sales volume of Wal-Mart, but in at least one important financial metric the social media network has overtaken Wal-Mart. According to the Associated Press, Facebook has knocked Wal-Mart out of the Standard & Poor’s list of the top 10 most valuable stocks.



As of the morning of Tuesday, June 23, Facebook had total valuation of $242.7 billion and share price of $86.59. Wal-Mart had total valuation of $233.8 billion and share price of $72.58. Facebook share value has risen 32% in the past year, compared to 8.2% for the overall index of Standard & Poor’s top 500 stocks.
