New York -- A report by Financial Times revealed that eBay’s CEO John Donahoe spoke out in support of Google as the search-engine giant defends itself in an antitrust case lodged in Brussels, Belgium.
According to Donahoe in an interview with FT, because eBay and Google are direct competitors in online shopping, the European Commission that is bringing the antitrust charges against Google will be challenged to make its case. Donahoe told the Times in an interview published Sunday that his company is "a strong commerce competitor" of Google Shopping.
The European Union – after a five-year investigation – accused Google of cheating consumers and competitors by distorting Web search results to favor its own shopping service. Google responded via a blog post that it strongly disagreed with the EU's statement of objections and would make the case that its products have fostered competition and benefited consumers.
