Report: eBay to compete with Amazon Prime in Germany

San Jose, Calif. – eBay reportedly plans to launch a program in Germany that will compete with the Amazon Prime expedited shipping service. According to The Street, eBay Germany will roll out the program, which appears to focus on sellers rather than buyers, in the second half of 2015.



There is no confirmed pricing, although sources indicate it will cost sellers from the equivalent of $16-22 annually to participate. To qualify, sellers must have top ratings, fulfill orders the day they arrive with fast shipment, and offer free returns for a month. In return, participating sellers will receive discounted fees and have eBay pay for some of the cost of returns.



It is not certain if customers will have to pay any money to participate (as they do for Amazon Prime) or if the program may be rolled out in other markets.
