Seattle – If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Amazon.com is reportedly heeding that old saw with plans to open a store on the Tmall site of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Holding Group.
According to Financial Times, Amazon only holds about 1% of China’s e-commerce marketshare, while Alibaba holds about 70% with its Tmall and Taobao sites. The Tmall store will send Chinese traffic back to Amazon’s China site. Analysts say Amazon will benefit from boosted traffic. Meanwhile, Alibaba, which has fought claims that its sites are widely used to sell counterfeit goods, will benefit from Amazon’s reputation for providing authentic merchandise.
