Report: Amazon enhances online reviews with machine learning

Seattle – is reportedly using a proprietary machine learning solution to analyze online customer reviews and present newer and more relevant reviews first. According to CNet, the system takes into account factors such as newness, whether the review was written by a verified Amazon purchaser and how many customers found the review helpful.

In addition, a product’s five-star rating will be partially based on those factors and not just on an average of all starred ratings, as it was previously. The new system launched in the U.S. on June 19. Amazon has not indicated whether it will use machine learning to enhance product listings in other countries.
