Report: Albertson's Sale to Affect More Than 5,000 Employees
Boise, Idaho Albertson's pending sale of 49 Florida stores to Publix will affect 5,131 employees, according to the Orlando Business Journal.
The company notified the state for that 5,131 employees statewide would be laid off between Sept. 7 and Sept. 20, the report said.
Albertson's spokesman Shane McEntarffer said Publix has agreed to interview all of those employees for rehiring, and that some may be transferred to other Albertson's stores. Qualifying employees who are not rehired or transferred will receive severance.
The company will hold job fairs for all Albertson’s employees affected by the layoffs, and those workers that come to the job fair are guaranteed an interview, the report said.
The sale of 49 Florida Albertson's stores which was announced Tuesday represents nearly half of the Albertson's stores in the state.
