Report: $2 billion in sales lost due to snowstorm

12/21/2009

New York City Retailers lost an estimated $2 billion in sales because of the snowstorm that walloped the East Coast this past weekend, according to the business weather intelligence firm Planalytics.

The company said some “Super Saturday” sales -- but not all -- will be made up in time for Christmas, with the recovered sales seen most at retailers with "must have" items (such as Toys “R” Us, Best Buy and Walmart). But the industry as a whole will not be able to completely "make up" for so many lost shopping hours in so many heavily-populated centers, according to Planalytics.
