Publix Sees Fourth Quarter Increases
Lakeland, Fla. Publix Super Markets Inc.’s sales rose 6.1% in its fourth quarter, to $5.9 billion, compared to $5.6 billion for the same period last year.
Same-store sales increased 3.6% and earnings also jumped 6.5% to $311 million.
Publix’s revenue for its 2007 fiscal year ended Dec. 29, 2007, was $23 billion, a 6.3% increase from $21.7 billion in fiscal 2006. Comparable store sales in 2007 increased 4.3%, and earnings rose 7.9% to $1.2 billion for the year.
The supermarket, which is privately owned and operated by its 146,000 employees, operates 928 stores across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee.
