Pep Boys profit, sales up in Q1

Philadelphia The Pep Boys -- Manny, Moe & Jack reported Tuesday that net earnings for the first quarter increased to $12 million from $10.9 million in the year-ago period.

Sales for the first quarter ended May 1 rose 2.7%, to $510 million, compared with $496.5 million a year ago.

Same-store sales edged up 1.4%.
