Pep Boys extends partnership with 3PL

5/1/2009

Philadelphia Pep Boys recently extended its relationship with Dallas-based third-party logistics provider Transplace, which will continue managing inbound merchandise shipments from domestic vendors to the chain’s distribution centers and cross-docks.

Since 2006, Pep Boys has been using Transplace’s services as well as the vendor’s transportation-management system, a Web-based application and business-intelligence tool that the retailer and its suppliers use to collaborate on shipments and monitor the transit of goods to approximately 600 Pep Boys locations.

Once collaboration is complete, Transplace delivers merchandise according to the established plan. Pep Boys can assess and further improve the shipping process by accessing real-time reports created through TMS.

During its relationship with Transplace, Pep Boys has seen “significant annual savings on inbound freight costs,” said Joshua Dolan, director of global logistics and U.S. customs compliance at Pep Boys. “The bottom line is where Pep Boys has seen the most significant benefit.”
