Online spending up for Thanksgiving season
RESTON, Va. Online retail spending was up 17% for the first 23 days of the November to December 2007 holiday season. According to a study by comScore, more than $9.3 billion has been spent online during the season-to-date. Online retail spending was strong on both Thanksgiving Day (up 29% to $272 million) and "Black Friday" (up 22% to $531 million), outpacing the season-to-date growth rate.
Retailers are still looking to cash in on the popularity of online shopping during the holidays by continuing the Thanksgiving shopping period with “Cyber Monday” deals. Today macys.com is offering special deals and free shipping on orders of $75 or more. Meanwhile, Walmart.com has extended Cyber Monday for five days, offering shoppers discounts until Friday.
