OfficeMax issues social responsibility report

NAPERVILLE, Ill. OfficeMax Tuesday announced that it has released its first Corporate Social Responsibility Report. According to the company, the report provides an account of the company’s accomplishments and efforts toward become a more sustainable company. The report follows the Global Reporting Initiative's G3 sustainability reporting guidelines, the company reported.

Among the issues discussed in the report are diversity and inclusion, working environment, community and education, natural environment, and customer value.

According to the report, in the area of diversity and inclusion, OfficeMax has established a diversity council and created the office of diversity and inclusion. To create a better working environment, OfficeMax reported that it has reinstituted a tuition reimbursement program and instituted a Social Accountability Audit Program for all overseas direct import product vendors. The company reported that it has revamped its giving program to focus on helping teachers to provide quality education and will continue to support a number of charities on the local and national level. In order to have a positive impact on the environment, OfficeMax said that it has issued the OfficeMax Environmental Policy and offered the first nationally distributed color copier paper manufactured using electricity derived from wind power and with 100% post-consumer fiber.

"Over the past three years, OfficeMax has made positive strides in our business overall and in our efforts to ensure that our company operates in a socially and environmentally responsible manner," said Sam Duncan, chairman and ceo of OfficeMax. "We committed significant effort to the compilation of our CSR Report and are proud to have this record of our accomplishments. As OfficeMax enhances programs already in place and launches new programs, we have a living document to record our progress."
