Office Depot integrates card-based payments into self-service printers

5/4/2009

Boca Raton, Fla. Office Depot visitors are no longer confined to waiting on line when paying for services rendered on the retailer’s self-service Xerox printers. Outfitted with new customized software and card readers, the units now process gift cards, coupons and loyalty cards.

Shoppers are able to pay for printing directly at the unit with the help of AutoPay software, developed by Xerox and Xerox Alliance Partner Equitrac Corp., both of Norwalk, Conn. Printers also feature an integrated secure card reader from Xerox Secure Access Unified ID and software from Plantation, Fla.-based Equitrac that supports secure payments and PCI compliance.

Besides tendering transactions, the technology provides an estimate of the cost of the job, verifies whether the card used for the purchase has sufficient funds, and generates receipts. Shoppers can also swipe their loyalty cards through the reader and earn Office Depot Worklife Rewards loyalty points for each transaction.

The service is now available at more than 1,100 Office Depot stores in the United States.
