NYC prepares to get Wired

12/3/2013

Wired, a Conde Nast brand, is getting ready to open a popup store for the ninth consecutive year in New York City, featuring electronics, rare objects d' art, apparel and accessories, musical instruments, kitchen gadgets and adventure gear.

Located in the heart of the Meatpacking District, at 353 West 14th St., the store will be open from noon-8 p.m., Tuesdays through Sundays, from Dec. 4 through Dec. 22. This year’s popup store is sponsored by Citi, the 2014 Corvette Stingray and Delta Air Lines.

This year’s theme is “Check It Out” and offers shoppers what the company is calling its “most memorable, interactive experience yet.” Consumers will get to test the exclusive goods in the store before making purchasing in the online store.

"This year, the Wired Store is more than a display of the latest trends in technology and design," said Wired VP and publisher Howard Mittman. "The social retail experience serves as a vehicle for interaction and engagement with consumers and influencers, creating an opportunity for sponsors to amplify their brand."

One-of-a-kind items include the 2014 Corvette Stingray; the world's first all titanium, headless guitar, a computer hardware clad chair sat in by Lady Gaga to promote her new album and a miniskirt worn by Katy Perry programmed to receive and display Tweets in real time.

The store also includes items from the Guiltless Gift Guide, featured in Wired’s historic December issue, guest edited by Bill Gates. Gates collaborated with Wired editor-in-chief Scott Dadich and staffers to create an issue focused on the innovations and economics necessary to solve global health issues and end poverty.
