NYC gets its third Saks Fifth Avenue store — with a twist

2/23/2017

Saks Fifth Avenue is giving New York City a new “boy’s club.”

The chain’s first-ever Saks Downtown Men’s store is a stand-alone 16,000-sq.-ft. location dedicated to men’s categories. Featuring a strong focus on modern fashion, it carries more than 100 brands, including a dominant assortment of designer footwear and accessories.

Located at 250 Vesey Street in lower Manhattan, the store also features an “experiential shopping environment.”

"Our Downtown New York men's store will be the first of its kind, fusing the in-store and digital experiences to create an all-channel store geared to the lifestyle needs of the downtown man and the way he shops," said Marc Metrick, president, Saks Fifth Avenue. "With this opening, we are cementing Saks as the destination for men.”

Situated near the store’s southern entrance, for example, is a wall dedicated to technology showcasing the latest trends in designer electronics and accessories, alongside designer shoes, handbags and sunglasses. Advanced designer, contemporary and luxe ready-to-wear collections appear side-by-side, with apothecary and fragrance brands nearby.

At the store’s northern entrance is the reimagined, technology-driven Fifth Avenue Club for private styling consultations. The Club features interactive mirrored screens allowing customers to view their own made-to-measure, suiting and shirting designs using an intuitive new digital interface to instantly select fabrics, linings, buttons, personalized embroidery, and more. Sport coats will have labels bearing the name of the customer/collaborator. The program debuts first at Saks Downtown Men’s, but will expand into additional Saks locations throughout 2017, the company said.

Another service launching in the spring is Sharps Barber and Shop, which will provide high-quality barbering services, a Fika Coffee Bar, and refreshments.

Other luxury services include the Leather Spa at Saks that provides immediate repairs for shoes and leather accessories, as well as leather care products. Meanwhile, the Saks at Your Service Mercedes-Benz sprinter will bring Saks’ personal styling directly to a customer’s home, hotel or office.

The store will also exhibit a monthly, rotating mix of designer collaborations, exclusive collections and unique visual displays. “World of Sneakers,” available through March, kicks off the pop-up series, showcasing more than 200 styles, including designer brands such as Fendi, Givenchy, Alexander McQueen, Maison Margiela, among others.

The store’s understated design palette, featuring a mix of gray, silver, white, black and taupe tones, unites the many brands and departments. A wall of windows illuminates the space with natural light, and provides views of the Statue of Liberty. Chevron–patterned porcelain flooring, Phillip Jeffries hand-crafted woven wall coverings, and an eclectic mix of found and custom furniture, fixtures and accessories create the signature and timeless style Saks is known for, Saks reported.
