NRF praises rejection of 'card-check' bill
WASHINGTON The National Retail Federation announced Tuesday that it was pleased with U.S. Senate's decision to reject H.R. 800, the “Employee Free Choice Act,” sponsored by health, education, labor and pensions committee chairman Ted Kennedy, D-Mass. The legislation failed to receive the 60 votes needed to further debate the measure.
The bill defeated today would require the National Labor Relations Board to certify a union if presented with signed authorization cards from a majority of employees the union is seeking to organize, and eliminate the National Labor Relations Act requiring the use of federally-supervised secret ballots in union elections.
