Now that Amazon.com sells virtually any physical good one can think of, the retailer wants to be there when a customer needs to install or repair it.
Amazon announced it islaunching Amazon Home Services, a new marketplace for on-demand professional services that puts it in competition with online service platforms such as Angie's List, Craigslist. In less than 60 seconds, customers can browse, purchase and schedule hundreds of professional services directly on Amazon.com.
Amazon Home Services features handpicked professionals offering upfront pricing on pre-packaged services with reviews from customers that have made verified purchases. Amazon’s “Happiness Guarantee” backs all service purchases. The service is expanding from a limited beta test to 41 U.S. states in major metro areas including New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle.
In the new online Amazon Home Services store, customers can purchase professional services within categories including home improvement, computer & electronics, lawn & garden, lessons, and automotive.
Although the Amazon Home Services is new, Amazon has actually offered handyman listings for several months in a few limited markets. Reuters first reported on Amazon's installation and repair ambitions last June. And in November, Forbes discovered an Amazon web page called Amazon Local Services with similar offerings to Amazon Home Services.
