Not all Starbucks will close on Tuesday afternoon

5/25/2018
Target Corp.’s Starbucks cafes will remain open when the coffee giant closes its U.S. stores on the afternoon of May 29 for racial-bias training.

The discounter posted a Q&A on its website noting that Starbucks locations in Target stores are managed and run by Target and its associates, who will take part in Target’s existing company-wide bias training programs.

In other highlights from the Q&A:

When did you start offering bias training, and who participates? We introduced the first of our unconscious bias trainings in 2017, which are rolling out now to our all teams across our company. Additionally, we’re continuing to make it a part of all of our company’s learning and development plans, including the ones we use whenever new team members come onboard.

Why is Target investing in bias training for its team members?
At Target, we have a longstanding company commitment to diversity and inclusion and hold inclusivity as a core value of our company. Our bias training is part of Target’s commitment to making sure our team can learn and build skills that will benefit them, and in turn, help us create a welcoming and inclusive experience for our shoppers.

When will Target’s team members take their bias training?
The majority of our headquarters teams have already completed immersive bias trainings, and next up, our stores, distribution center and global teams will also conduct the training.
