Nordstrom cancels first store in Alabama
New York City Nordstrom has decided not to proceed with a planned store in Alabama, the Portland Business Journal reported. The store, in the Riverchase Galleria in Birmingham, would have marked the chain’s debut in Alabama.
The two-level store would have been about 143,000 sq. ft. and would have been developed in part by General Growth Properties, with a spring 2012 opening date. General Growth filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this month.
Nordstrom spokeswoman Julee Kraus said the company was sad to see the Alabama store project canceled, but doesn’t rule out future expansion in the state, the report said.
