Nike generates and fills new vp position

BEAVERTON, Oreg. Nike Inc. promoted Sandy Bodecker to the newly created position of vice president of Nike Global Design, the company said Friday.

In his new role, Bodecker will oversee all aspects of design for the Nike brand, from concept creation to retail presentation. He will report to Nike brand president Charlie Denson.

Bodecker most recently was vp of sport culture, one of Nike's six core consumer categories. Dermott Cleary, who is vp of brand marketing for sport culture, will replace Bodecker.

Nike ceo Mark Parker said the formation of a global design position emphasizes the company's commitment to delivering a steady stream of product and brand innovations, like Nike+ and NIKEid.

"Deisgn innovation in our products and brand experience is core to Nike and essential in realizing out full growth," Parker said. "Sandy is absolutely the right person to lead Nike Design."

Bodecker joined Nike in 1982 as a footwear wear-test coordinator. Over the next decade he held a variety of positions in footwear, including product development manager and director of product development. In 1993, he was named vp of advanced research and development for footwear. From 1994 to 2001, Bodecker led Nike's soccer business. In 2001, he was named general manager of Nike Skateboard.
