New Target coming to Chicago’s north side

10/31/2012

The opening of the first CityTarget in Chicago was a big deal this summer, but next fall an even bigger development is coming to an area just a few miles further north.

Target said it plans to open a beast of a new store next October at the intersection of West Division Street and North Larrabee Street. The new 190,000-sq.-ft. location will give the company a presence on three sides of city’s urban core. Currently, Target operates a store at 1101 W. Jackson Boulevard known as the west Loop store and another location at 1154 South Clark Street known as the South Loop store. Those units are in addition to the CityTarget store at 1 South State Street. The new Chicago unit is among 10 locations nationwide that Target has announced so far for 2013.

"In Chicago, we are committed to attracting companies who are willing to invest in our neighborhoods, create jobs for our residents, and improve quality of life in the city," said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. "There will be 200 new jobs at this Target, to add to the thousands of employees already working for Target in Chicago, advancing the fortunes and opportunity for the neighborhood."

The company held a job fair this week for construction positions.

"Chicago continues to be a strong market for Target, and we’re excited to expand our presence there in 2013," said Bryan Everett, Target’s SVP of stores for the Midwest region. "Target is committed to being a good neighbor and developing long-lasting relationships with guests and the Near North community."
