New Minimum Wage Takes Effect

New York City The national minimum wage increased to $6.55 from $5.85 per hour as of July 24, as part of the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007.

The increase is the second of three annual increases required by the 2007 law. Next year's boost will bring the federal minimum to $7.25 an hour, which would be the final increase under the act.
