New JCP board teaches online acumen

7/22/2015

Mandy Ginsberg isn’t a household name in the retail industry but J.C. Penney thinks its newest board member can help improve online customer engagement.

J.C. Penney announced that Ginsberg, CEO of test preparation company The Princeton Review, was elected to its board of directors. Although she doesn’t have direct retail experience, Ginsberg was characterized as an accomplished leader with extensive online consumer acumen because the company she leads provides on-demand learning solutions and operates the largest Internet-based tutoring company Tutor.com. Prior to The Princeton Review, Ginsberg served as CEO of online dating services provider Match.com.

"J.C. Penney is a leader in omnichannel retail, and understands the importance of adapting the shopping experience to cater to today's digitally savvy customer," said Thomas Engibous, chairman of the retailer’s board. "Mandy's strong industry expertise and vast knowledge of online customer engagement make her an ideal addition to the J.C. Penney board."

“(J.C. Penney) has a strong legacy of e-commerce, and continues to discover new and unique ways of connecting customers with its stores and online presence - particularly among millennials, whose purchasing power is largely influenced by their use of various devices across multiple shopping channels. I am delighted to be part of the Company's ongoing evolution."
