New denim brand eyes thick thigh niche
With a name and a logo similar to another leading denim brand, Keirin Cut Jeans has turned to social media with a Kickstarter campaign to launch its new line.
Keirin Cut Jeans with it KC logo, not Calvin Klein Jeans, hopes to bring to market jeans for those whose toned, athletic bodies, make it hard to find jeans that fit. That is the market niche being pursued by champion cyclist and aspiring Olympian Beth Newell who said she is proud of what she called her, “thunder thighs.” Her beefy quads make it hard to find jeans that fit among the offering provided by major jean manufacturers.
Newell contends she is not alone. With the trendy push towards skinny jeans, many athletes are forced to buy jeans a size or two up simply because of their legs, and end up with gaping waistlines that don't fit the trim torso of an athlete.
So far, Newell has only created prototypes of the jeans and to begin full production is looking to raise funds with a Kickstarter campaign and social media outreach. She said within 24 hours of the online fundraising launch, the campaign was over 60% funded and had received the Kickstarter Staff Pick. The initial production run fundraiser will deliver jeans to backers who pledge $107 or more to the campaign.
