Netflix Crosses 10 Million Subscriber Mark
Los Gatos, Calif. Netflix Inc. said Thursday that it passed a milestone of 10 million subscribers.
Netflix said that it added over 600,000 net subscribers since the beginning of the year. The rise was due in part to an expansion of the ways consumers can watch movies and TV shows through the company's service, Netflix said.
Besides receiving DVDs through the mail, customers can stream content over the Internet and watch it on a computer or TV.
Also Thursday, the company repeated its expectation of ending the first quarter with 10.1 million to 10.3 million subscribers. It expects to have 10.6 million to 11.3 million subscribers by the end of 2009.
Netflix launched its initial DVDs-by-mail subscription service in 1999.
