Modell's gets tech savvy about employee selection

3/26/2014

Modell's Sporting Goods is replacing its paper-driven employee-selection process with Infor PeopleAnswers Talent Science — a tool designed to improve that process as well as development and succession planning for its chain of more than 150 stores throughout the Northeast.

According to Infor, Infor PeopleAnswers Talent Science is available via the cloud and uses science, technology and analytics to predictively link behavioral data to real business outcomes, helping companies improve business performance, reduce turnover and optimize the HR process.

"As we go into our 125th year in business, we were looking for a partner that could help us better shape and grow our existing successful teams. Infor's scalable solution can quickly identify key attributes we look for in team members, which will streamline hiring and ultimately reduce employee turnover," said Mark Oliver, SVP, human resources, Modell's Sporting Goods. "The solution will not only help us hire with more confidence, but will provide us with enough information to plan for onboarding and coaching of certain positions, giving our HR managers more confidence in decision-making."

Infor PeopleAnswers Talent Science provides HR professionals and hiring managers with analytics to identify the personality and behavioral traits that distinguish top performers and identify internal and external candidates who possess those traits. Infor explains that using such analytics in the hiring and talent management process can help organizations better identify, hire, deploy, align, review, coach, promote and reward talent. With the ability to customize hiring profiles, the solution uses industry and client-specific metrics to identify high achievers and their key attributes through data points such as sales volume, sales units, percentage to goal, up-sell or accessory sales, guest satisfaction surveys, mystery shopper scores, performance evaluations and sales per hour.

"Having a strong workforce is the backbone of any successful company — from stock rooms to customer service all the way through to management," said Gab Goncalves, SVP, HCM strategy, Infor. "The ability to harness data and translate it directly to hiring can enable improvement of the HR function and, in a retail setting, there is real opportunity for hiring and talent management to drive business performance."
