Meijer makes customers so happy they cry

Thanksgiving may be over, but it is worth watching a video of how Meijer made a difference in the lives of hundreds of customers and employees ahead of the holiday and in the process earned itself immeasurable goodwill.

Meijer this year repeated its Very Merry Meijer holiday promotion on Nov. 21 at each of its 223 stores. Store managers and top company executives surprised one lucky customer in each store by “gifting” their entire shopping cart upon checkout. It also gave a $100 Meijier gift card to the cashier helping the customer and then handed the customer another $100 gift card for the “pay if forward” purpose of sharing with someone else.

The reactions of customers and cashiers are priceless as seen in this video. The joyful and tearful reactions are understandable considerable the value of purchases ranged from $150 up to $1,200.

According to Meijer Co-Chairman Doug Meijer, the event began last year as a way to say “thank you,” to customers and for customers to extend generosity.

"It was so inspiring to hear those stories that we wanted to include that in our surprise this year. In all my years at Meijer, this is truly the most fun I've ever had,” Meijer said.
