Macy’s to sell building in Pittsburgh but keep store

Pittsburgh Macy's is trying to sell its landmark 13-story building in downtown Pittsburgh.

The building for years was the flagship for the locally owned Kaufmann's department store chain.

Macy's took over the building in 2005 when it bought May Department Stores, which had taken over Kaufmann's. Macy's uses 10 floors for its store, and the 11th for its offices, with the top two floors vacant.

A Macy's spokesman said Macy's plans to remain in the building, but may lease less space depending on what the new owner wants to do with the property.

Macy's isn't commenting on an asking price, but the building is assessed at $14 million. May Department Stores paid $2.8 million when they took over the building in 1986.
