Macy’s reaches out to moms and students
Macy’s is gearing up for the 2014 back-to-school season by reaching out to moms, kids and college students with a one-day shopping event in select locations nationwide called Teen Vogue Back-to-School Saturdays on Aug. 9.
During the shopping event, back-to-school shoppers will be able to pick from a showcase of fall fashions.
“As the shopping destination for moms, kids and college students, Macy’s offers the latest fashions at affordable prices for all kids going back-to-school this season,” said Martine Reardon, Macy’s chief marketing officer. “As children get ready for the classroom, it is often a busy time for parents too. At Macy’s, we have great fashion and finds — across apparel, shoes, home and accessories, all under one roof to make shopping stress-free.”
The retailer is also forecasting trends for fall. Blue hues will be big, the company said. For girls, nineties grunge returns with strong punk influences. Leather, moto jackets and pants with varnish and hardware will be popular, as will re-colored tartan plaids for everything from blazers and boyfriend cardigans to baby doll dresses and flouncy skirts.
Slip-on sneakers, lace-up booties and totes will get an update. Soft pants and crop tops are another go-to look for the early fall and back-to-school time period, according to the retailer. The bomber, cardigan or “coatigan,” a cardigan that’s slightly longer, all are new.
With the eighties and nineties serving as the inspiration, guys can look forward to motorcycle jackets, denim jackets in “more aggressive washes and contrast sleeves.” Studs are back and show up on jackets, wovens, knits and caps. Graphic tees featuring skulls, animal prints and punk rock band graphics will also be available for grabs. For little boys, key elements include plaid, cardigans, rocker graphic tees and to skinny denim.
And the retailer is also luring college students with items for their dorm rooms, including comforters, duvets, cushions, floor lamps and even a plush area rug in rich colors, muted natural shades or bold patterns, as well as hanging shelves for closets and over-the-door shoe organizers.
