Lowe’s Expands Distribution Center
Mooresville, N.C., Lowe’s Cos. is expanding its regional distribution center (RDC) in Statesville, N.C., at a cost of about $12 million. The 1.15 million-sq.-ft. distribution center opened in 1996. The expansion, which should be completed by spring 2006, will add 324,000 sq. ft. and allow for additional inventory.
The RDC supplies approximately 140 Lowe’s stores in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri and Virginia. Nationwide, Lowe’s has 11 RDCs.
North Carolina Commerce Secretary Jim Fain said, “We are pleased that Lowe’s is adding to its significant presence and investment in North Carolina, reflecting the continuing growth and success of this homegrown company, which employs thousands of North Carolinians.” The expansion is expected to create 50 new jobs.
