Lowe's donates $1M to spruce up Boys & Girls Clubs

ATLANTA — Lowe’s has donated $1 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America so the organization can refurbish clubs across the country. Lowe's grants of up to $50,000 will fund repairs and renovations at 20 Boys & Girls Clubs, from northern Washington State to South Florida.

A partner of Boys & Girls Clubs of America since 2009, Lowe's selected the clubs based on immediate facility improvement needs, the creativity of the projects and the potential impact on youth members. Club staff will work to complete the projects in 2013. At many locations, Lowe's Heroes employee volunteers will provide hands-on help with the improvement projects.

"We are very thankful for Lowe's continued support over the past few years, providing essential updates and improvements for our Clubs throughout the country," said Jim Clark, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. "This $1 million investment will help provide places where our club members can grow and develop the skills they need for a great future."

Boys & Girls Clubs work each day to help young people reach their potential and achieve success. Since 2009, Lowe's has contributed $4 million in grants to fund improvements at more than 80 clubs.

"For more than 100 years, Boys & Girls Clubs have delivered high-impact youth development programs that promote academic success, good character and healthy lifestyles," said Joan Higginbotham, Lowe's director of community relations. "With the $1 million donation and the help of our Lowe's Heroes, we're able to improve our local communities and support the development of tomorrow's leaders."

As part of the $1 million contribution, this year’s grant recipients are:

A.G. Gaston Boys & Girls Club — Birmingham:$48,200 to upgrade electrical systems and energy efficiency

Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama — Huntsville:$50,000 to replace flooring and renovate kitchen

California

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Peninsula — Menlo Park,$13,500 to expand administrative building

Boys & Girls Club of Oceanside — Oceanside,$50,000 to repair and upgrade soccer field

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Sacramento — Sacramento,$38,000 to repair and renovate game room and physical fitness area

Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica — Santa Monica,$50,000 to construct a new teen center

Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Sonoma County — Santa Rosa,$25,000 to upgrade flooring and paint

Florida

Boys & Girls Clubs of Saint Lucie County — St. Lucie,$42,000 to renovate basketball court and paint

West Springfield Boys & Girls Club — West Springfield,$43,000 to renovate bathrooms
