Loss widens at AC Moore Arts & Crafts

8/13/2009

Berlin, N.J. AC Moore Arts & Crafts said on Thursday it posted a wider second-quarter loss as same-store sales sank in the recession.

AC Moore's loss for the three months ended July 4 was $8.1 million, compared with a loss of $4.3 million last year.

Sales fell 17% to $104.4 million from $126.4 million due to fewer operating stores and a 13.8% drop in same-store sales.

"While we are not satisfied with the results for the second quarter, revenue was in line with our expectations," chief executive Rick Lepley said in a statement.
