12/19/2007

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. Longs Drug Stores today announced that it has donated $225,000 to the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports to support California's Governor's Fitness Challenge. According to the company the funds will be used to support various initiatives under the challenge.

The Fitness Challenge was launched by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a competition among k-12 schools to help build a healthier California by encouraging students and teachers to be more active, healthy and fit.

"This is a terrific program and wonderful organization," said Warren Bryant, chairman, president and ceo. "We are thrilled to have the opportunity to collaborate with the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports as well as a number of other organizations, schools and educational associations to promote healthy, more active lifestyles throughout the State of California. We anticipate that Longs customers will want to help as well and we plan to launch a program next February to increase awareness of the Governor's Challenge."
