Longs Drug September Sales Climb

Walnut Creek, Calif., Longs Drug Stores reported on Thursday total sales for the five weeks ended Sept. 27 rose 3.5% to $447 million from $432 million a year ago. Same-store sales rose 1.8%, reflecting a 1.6% improvement in its pharmacies and a 1.9% gain in the front end.

For the 35 weeks of the year to date, same-store sales are up 1.6 %, while total sales rose 3.6% to $3.19 billion.
