Westside Market, a local New York City grocery retailer, is partnering with Instacart for delivery to the Upper West Side neighborhood.
Instacart customers on the Upper West Side will now have access to an assortment of Westside Market items, all delivered in as soon as one hour. Instacart will deliver from a select Westside Market location to start (110th Street and Broadway), and Instacart prices are the same as Westside Market's in-store prices. Westside Market has five stores in all.
"Everything we do is centered around our commitment to bring the best products to our valued customers," said Ian Joskowitz, COO at Westside Market. "We know our customers wanted same day delivery, and we wanted to fulfill that need at a reasonable price. Partnering with Instacart allows us to extend our premium quality goods straight from our shelves to people's homes."
This new partnership reflects two trends in the burgeoning field of same-day online delivery. First, New York is emerging as one of the top markets for same-day delivery in the U.S., along with San Francisco/Silicon Valley. Amazon and Deliv have been very active in establishing same-day delivery infrastructures there, Starbucks recently started piloting deliveries to the Empire State Building, and smaller specialty delivery services like Doorman are also eyeing the Big Apple.
Second, vendors such as Delivery.com and UberRush are focusing on providing same-day delivery from small, local retailers who would never be able to offer their own omnichannel delivery service. Especially in urban areas such as New York, where there are large numbers of small, independent retailers, this is a valuable market if it can be tapped collectively.
