Loblaws to charge for plastic bags

Toronto Loblaw Cos. will begin charging 5 cents for plastic shopping bags at its corporate and participating franchise stores.

The company, which initially launched the initiative as a pilot in Toronto, plans to rolls out the program on April 22.

Loblaw's plan to divert 1 billion plastic shopping bags from landfills by the end of this year.
