3/24/2015

IKEA plans to open a store of truly epic proportions on a 22 acre site in Burbank, Calif., that will require the home furnishing retailer first demolish 19 existing structures.

IKEA’s new store will measure 456,000-sq.-ft. with 1,700 parking spaces and will be located about a mile from the company’s existing Burbank stores which is the oldest IKEA in the Western U.S. In order to construct the new store, IKEA first has to demolish 19 buildings encompassing about 450,000-sq.-ft. and plans to recycle, repurpose and salvage as much of the debris from those structures as possible for use in its new store.

It promises to be a time consuming process. The new IKEA isn’t slated to open until Spring 2017.
