Kroger debuts automated tunnel scanner
Cincinnati The Kroger Co. said Thursday it has introduced a fully automated tunnel scanner call Advantage Checkout.
Currently in place at the Kroger Marketplace store in Hebron, Ky., the system allows shoppers to place items on a conveyer belt where they are scanned at high speed through the tunnel. Shoppers then receive a receipt with a barcode, which is scanned at a nearby payment terminal. Store employees monitor the scanning process and bag shoppers’ purchases.
