Kohl's teaching the technology of retail

7/28/2015

Kohl’s is looking to mold the minds of the next generation of retailers with an innovative new program for students.

The Kohl's Digital Center, in Milpitas, Calif., has become home to a summer internship program that gives students a first-hand look about the role technology plays in retail. On July 23, Kohl’s interns took part in Kohl’s first ever Intern Innovate-a-Thon.

The event was held at technology accelerator Plug and Play Tech Center in Sunnyvale, California. The students were divided into teams and given an open-ended retail challenge. Finalists had a chance to present their ideas to Kohl’s technology executives.

Kohl’s has had an office in Silicon Valley since 2013. The facility supports the continued growth of Kohls.com and the company’s strategic focus on omnichannel initiatives in the mobile and digital space, including Kohls.com, mobile, point-of-sale, big-data analytics and more.

This year, Kohl’s anticipates its Silicon Valley hub will nearly double from 100 full-time associates to 200.
