Kohl's invests in kids and a 5K

1/30/2015

Kohl’s rolled out two omnichannel campaigns in January underscoring the company’s stated focus on giving back to the community.

The company says it will award $400,000 in scholarships and prizes to more than 2,500 students who have made a positive impact on their communities. Nominations for kids ages 6 to 18 will be accepted until March 13 at kohlskids.com and in stores.

“Children around the country are doing inspiring work in their communities every day and Kohl's is proud to reward these future leaders through the Kohl's Cares Scholarship Program,” said Bevin Bailis, Kohl’s senior vice president, communications and public relations. “We encourage parents, teachers, neighbors and friends to nominate the outstanding youth in their lives, so we can honor and acknowledge young volunteers for their time, innovation and passion for helping others and making a difference this year."

Ten national winners will each be awarded a $10,000 scholarship for higher education, and Kohl’s will donate $1,000 to a nonprofit organization on each national winner’s behalf. Nearly 200 students will win regional scholarships worth $1,000 toward higher education, and more than 2,000 local students will receive a $50 Kohl’s gift card.

Kohls’ also announced that it will be the exclusive department store retail partner for the Color Run. Kohl’s stores will serve as the packet pick-up location in more than 100 cities across the county, providing a one-stop shop for families gearing up for race day.

“Kohl’s is teaming with The Color Run to invite America’s families to get active at one of the most engaging, socially-sharable and accessible fitness events in the country,” said Michelle Gass, Kohl’s chief customer officer.

“We are continually connected with Kohl’s strong social followers and will encourage those participating in the event, or those cheering on their friends and family, to share their stories with our social community. We know jumping into the active lifestyle is a different experience for everyone and The Color Run is the perfect event for families to have fun with fitness.”
