Kohl’s growing its fulfillment network

Kohl’s comprehensive omnichannel distribution network is about to get even bigger.

The department store chain is preparing to open a new distribution center in Plainfield, Ind., just in time to manage the 2017 holiday season.

The new fulfillment center, which will be dedicated to e-commerce operations, will be a 937,000-sq.-ft. facility. This will be Kohl’s 14th distribution center, and its fifth building dedicated to serving kohls.com customers. The warehouse is expected to open in summer 2017.

“Our investment in a new e-commerce fulfillment center is one of the many ways we are supporting omnichannel fulfillment, and providing an easy experience to Kohl’s customers,”said Sona Chawla, Kohl’s COO.

“This [building] is in addition to our capability to ship merchandise from our entire network of more than 1,100 Kohl’s stores nationwide, and the option for customers to buy online and pick up their purchase at their local Kohl’s store — two initiatives that came to life last year,” she added. “It illustrates our commitment to being able to deliver products more quickly and efficiently.”

Kohl’s will begin hiring for the facility in spring 2017, and expects to employ approximately 300 full- and 600 part-time associates over a three-year period.
