Kohl’s enters the mobile payments game

10/5/2016

Kohl’s Corp. has joined the ranks of Walmart, Starbucks and other companies to offer its own mobile payments app.

The retailer launched Kohl’s Pay on Wednesday, hoping to speed up checkout in its stores. Using the app, shoppers can integrate their Kohl’s private label credit card and their Yes2You Rewards member number directly in the app’s mobile wallet. The technology also saves earned Kohl’s Cash and Yes2You Rewards.

When paying for their purchase at checkout, customers launch the Kohl’s App, and select Kohl’s Pay from the menu options. Using the displayed QR code reader, shoppers scan a QR code appearing on the customer-facing point-of-sale (POS) display, and savings offers and Kohl’s Cash are applied to the order. They can then tender the order using their stored Kohl’s credit card.

“Kohl’s Pay simplifies the checkout and payment experience – making it easier than ever to shop in store this holiday season,” said Ratnakar Lavu, Kohl’s CTO. “We’re combining value and convenience by bringing together savings opportunities, including Kohl’s Cash, our Yes2You Rewards loyalty program, and the ability to pay with a Kohl’s Charge, all from their mobile device.”

The app, which already has more than 14 million downloads, also features the option to scan and store Kohl’s gift cards, and savings offers. The app also enables shoppers to browse by category, and use “Store Tools” a service that creates a more customized in-store shopping experience, a company statement explained.
