Kirkland's Mall Stores Help Narrow Loss

5/30/2008

Jackson, Tenn. Kirkland's Inc. said Friday it narrowed its fiscal first-quarter loss as results at mall stores improved.

The company's loss for the quarter ended May 3, totaled $2.6 million compared with a loss of $7.5 million. Revenue rose 2% to $84.1 million from $82.3 million a year ago.

Same-store sales rose 4.3% during the quarter, including a 9.3% rise at mall stores and a 2% rise at off-mall stores.

The company said shoppers have responded favorably to its merchandise mix and that shuttering underperforming stores helped results.
