KFC is celebrating its 75th anniversary with a store design makeover as it looks to refresh 70% of its 4,500 locations by the end of 2017.

The chain, owned by Yum! Brands, tapped FRCH Design Worldwide to come up with a modern look that would also highlight the playfulness and outsized personality of the brand’s legendary founder, Colonel Sanders.

The new design is bolder and cleaner, and places the colonel’s image front and center on the restaurant’s exterior. The interior features quotes and photos from the founder.

Sharp graphics in red and white evoke the Colonel’s legendary white suit while alluding to striped tents, suggesting his instinct for showmanship. Along with traditional seating, the redone interior has tall counter chairs and also family-style seating at the ‘Colonel’s table,’ an oversized rustic table set for flexible seating.

Since the first new store design tested in 2014, sales have risen 3%, according to FRCH.
