Keep your hat on

4/5/2010

Those who don’t follow the fashion world closely might not be aware that hat designer Eugenia Kim has a new line of hats coming out at Target later this month and it is kind of a big deal. That’s because the 12 specially-designed-for-Target hats will retail at prices ranging from $14.99 to $19.99. Kim’s hats typically cost upwards of $150 on her Web site and at high-end specialty and department stores where they are typically sold. Those offered at Target will feature silhouettes such as cloche, fedora, sun-hat, bucket-hat and newsboy and be embellished with unique details such as a chiffon scarf wrap, contrast color/print ribbon bands, and Kim’s signature trims and hardware.

The trendy and functional hat collection will be offered for six weeks beginning April 18 and is said to be inspired by, of all place, Havana, Cuba. Not for nothing, but how inspiring can Havana be? The decaying city is one of the last bastions of communism on an island best known these days for the controversy surrounding the detainment facility at Guantanamo Bay where the U.S. government houses enemy combatants.
