K-Mart exec: no exclusivity for HD-DVD format
HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. K-Mart’s vice president and general merchandising manager of its home electronics sect has squashed rumors of category exclusivity at the discount department store.
“There have been numerous statements in the media today, attributed to Toshiba, indicating exclusive support for the HD-DVD format in Kmart stores. These statements are false.” Jonathan Magasanik said.
Several reports were abuzz the past few weeks claiming K-Mart, a subsidiary of Sears Holdings Corp., was going to drop its Blu-ray format DVDs from its product selection because high definition products are deemed more affordable.
“Kmart intends to support both the HD-DVD and Blu-ray platforms, and has no plans to support either platform exclusively,” Magasanik said
