June sales jump 9.4% at Wal-Mart

BENTONVILLE, Ark. Wal-Mart Stores today reported total company net sales of $35.8 billion for the five weeks ended July 6, an increase of 9.4% from $33 billion for the five weeks ended July 7, 2006. For the 22-week period, the company reported total company sales of $152 billion, compared to $140 billion for the same period last year, representing a 8.3% increase.

On a comparable-store basis, Wal-Mart reported that total U.S. sales for the five-week period were up 2.5% with fuel, as compared with an increase of 1.4% last year. For the 22-week period, comparable-store sales (including fuel) increased 1.2%, compared with a 3% increase last year.

The company said it expects comparable-store sales for the July four-week reporting period to be between 1% and 2%. Earnings per share are expected to be in the range of 75 cents to 79 cents.
