JOLLY GREEN KIDS

10/8/2007

According to the Produce for Better Health Foundation, consumers are only eating about 3.6 servings of fruits and vegetables a day, rather than the five to nine recommended.

Because it is difficult to get adults to change their diets, vendors are focusing their efforts on, and promoting healthy eating habits for, kids.

For example, Green Giant has launched a new line of kid-friendly products and packaging featuring popular Nickelodeon characters such as Spongebob Squarepants, and Dora the Explorer and Diego (pictured). Green Giant is also backing the line with an educational initiative for kids at mightygiants.com .

In its Green Giant Vegetable Habits Survey of parents and children ages 6 to 10, almost one in three parents thinks his or her child is more likely to become president than to be coaxed into eating the recommended five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables a day. Green Giant has elected to try and change that.
